PUSHING FORWARD

“Pushing Forward” was a chance to tell stories beyond the Red Bull Skateboarding athlete roster in order to present a balanced and raw conversation about what skateboarding is in this present day and age. Skateboarding has never been so diverse and relevant on a global scale, and the people, places and trends that make up its identity are the focus of the series.

Role: Lead Producer, Project Manager

PUSHING FORWARD | SEASON 3

The Golden VX1000 Era

In this episode of Pushing Forward, we explore the enduring connection between Sony's iconic VX1000 video camera and skateboarding.

The VX1000, with its perfect handle, lightweight design, and exceptional microphone, changed the game in the late 90s and early 2000s. But what has allowed this nearly 30 year old piece of technology to endure in the hearts and minds of skateboarders?

We sat down with some of the most influential filmmakers and skateboarders to get their take on skateboarding's most iconic camera.

Let’s Talk About Mental Health

Skateboarding has many amazing body and mind benefits – but we too often like to pretend skateboarding is all we need.

However, as we get older and life creates new challenges, skateboarders are not impervious to life’s obstacles. Every now and then, just like rehabbing a skate injury, skaters need help getting back to full mental strength.

Collectively as a community, skateboarding, with the help of some amazing individuals and organizations, is pushing the benefits of skateboarding forward.

Skateboarding Vs. Sports

Is it really possible to “win” in skateboarding? Does it even matter if it is? At the end of the day, what is it that makes skateboarding different from other sports? We go in search of the answers in this episode of Pushing Forward.

“Going Pro” In Skateboarding

Skate mags used to run the world, but now social media means every skater can start their own brand. In the year 2023, what does it mean to be a pro skater? Does that title mean anything anymore? We (try to) break it down in this episode of Pushing Forward.

The Best Wheels In Skateboarding

Skateboarding is all about freedom and adventure, and nothing embodies that spirit more than hitting the open road in search of the perfect spot. But for skateboarders, transportation isn't just a means to an end—it can be an extension of their passion for skateboarding. In this episode of Pushing Forward, we take a closer look at the unique rides skateboarders use to get around and explore the world.

PUSHING FORWARD | SEASON 2

EP1 | Street Skating or Contest Skating?

In 2020, skateboarding is set to enter the mainstream on a global scale like it never has before — in Pushing Forward, we’re asking and answering the real, authentic and relevant questions that define the present day state of skate before it changes forever.

Jagger Eaton, Ryan Decenzo and Samarria Brevard show us the two different worlds of skateboarding, the skate park and the streets. These days, does it all come down to the core vs. the contests for a professional skateboarder?

EP2 | Skateboard Like a Girl

What does it mean to “skateboard like a girl?” How do we get more voices talking about women’s skateboarding? Vanessa Torres invites us in to explain how seeing yourself in skateboarding can give you the confidence to finally drop in.

EP3 | The Future of Skateboarding

What is the future of skateboarding? Where does this world that we hold so sacred go from here? In this episode of Pushing Forward, we talked to Zion Wright, Ryan Lay, Chris Pastras, Andrew Shrock and more to get a look at how we’ll be rolling into skateboarding’s new frontiers. Contests, training, media, the skate industry, they’re all changing — so how do we embrace skateboarding’s future without forgetting its past?
